What is Bladderwrack?

What is Bladderwrack?

What is Bladderwrack? If you are the type who loves to stay on top of all the latest health news, you might have heard a thing or two about bladderwrack. Bladderwrack is a seaweed that originates from the Atlantic and North Pacific Ocean as well as the Baltic Sea. It is brown in color and rich in a variety of different minerals and vitamins. Bladderwrack has become increasingly popular in the health community because it is so nutrient-dense. What are the Benefits of Using Bladderwrack? There are numerous benefits that have been linked to the use of bladderwrack. Some of the most common reasons people opt to integrate bladderwrack into their diet include to aid in weight loss, increase their cardiovascular health, or even to fight cancer.   Cancer-Fighting Bladderwrack is thought to fight cancer because it contains a high amount of fucoidan. Fucoidan is believed to have cancer-fighting properties. In a world where approximately 40% of people get cancer in their lifetime, it is important to integrate as many cancer-fighting tools into your lifestyle and diet as possible.   Anti-Aging Getting enough nutrients is an important part of protecting yourself from the effects of getting older. Aging is when the body breaks down over time. Just like how sunscreen can prevent wrinkles, taking nutrient-dense supplements on a daily basis can help delay some effects of aging.   Lowers Inflammation Inflammation can be a root cause of many different health problems. Bladderwrack acts as a defense mechanism against inflammation by creating a barrier between your stomach lining and irritants. This anti-inflammatory quality can help support your digestion and relieve indigestion.   Daily Vitamins and Minerals Taking a supplement containing bladderwrack can help ensure that you are getting all of your essential vitamins and minerals each day. Eating healthy is important, but sometimes there will be factors in our life that we can’t control. Maybe you are too busy to meal prep one week or you have to travel frequently for work. If you take a supplement every day, you will ensure your body gets the nutrients it needs, even when the variables of your life make it difficult to get properly fuelled.   Healing Wounds Bladderwrack is thought to heal wounds faster because it contains an ingredient called calcium alginate. Some preliminary studies have demonstrated that alginate can help significantly improve the rate at which wounds heal.   Improved vision Bladderwrack can promote eye health because it contains a nutrient called “fucoxanthin”. Fucoxanthin is believed to fight against the damage that exposure to blue light may cause. With many jobs requiring many hours of screen time, most people are being exposed to more blue light than ever before. Bladderwrack also includes powerful antioxidants that protect against eye problems, such as damage to the retina. Integrating antioxidants into your diet is an important part of maintaining good vision.   Treating Arthritis and Joint Pain In traditional medicine, one of the most common uses of bladderwrack was for joint pain. This is because of its powerful anti-inflammatory quality.   Preventing Weight Gain It is believed that bladderwrack might also prevent weight gain, which is a common health concern, especially among Americans. The study involved feeding mice a high-fat diet while also providing them with a supplement containing L-fucous. The L-fucous resulted in reduced weight gain. L-fucous is found in bladderwrack, which is why it is believed to prevent weight gain. How can I get Access to Bladderwrack? Chances are, you probably don’t want to eat straight seaweed if you can avoid it. Bladderwrack isn’t stocked in your typical grocery store anyways. The best way to work bladderwrack into your diet is to find a supplement that contains bladderwrack as one of the core ingredients. One great supplement option containing bladderwrack is the Akasha Superfoods’ Sea Moss Vitality Blend. This little capsule packs a powerful punch because it contains organic bladderwrack, organic Irish moss, and organic burdock root. The best part about using a daily supplement containing bladderwrack is that you don’t have to guess how much you should take. It’s the perfect dosage, every time. What is the difference between bladderwrack and sea moss? Put simply, they are two different types of seaweed! They are found in different environments. They both have strong nutritional benefits when consumed regularly. Can I take sea moss and bladderwrack together? You can absolutely take sea moss and bladderwrack together! In fact, in the Akasha Superfoods Sea Moss Vitality Blend supplement, sea moss and bladderwrack are paired together. This combo packs a powerful punch because both Irish Sea moss and bladderwrack have powerful nutritional qualities. What if I Don’t Like the Taste of Bladderwrack? You might have tried bladderwrack in powder or tea form and found the taste difficult to stomach. In this case, a daily capsule would definitely be the best option for you. It is unnecessary to force yourself to take a supplement in powder or tea form if you don’t enjoy the experience. Swallowing a capsule is just as effective.   Is Bladderwrack Just a Health Fad? It might seem that health information is constantly changing, but bladderwrack is not just a fad. In fact, it has been used in traditional medicine for centuries. Advanced societies like the Greeks and Romans [ https://www.indigo-herbs.co.uk/natural-health-guide/benefits/bladderwrack]documented their use of bladderwrack to treat various ailments.   Can You Take Bladderwrack Daily? Bladderwrack is a natural source of vitamins and minerals, and it is absolutely fine to consume on a daily basis. In fact, regularly consuming superfoods like bladderwrack or sea moss can actually show great health benefits over the long term.   What is the Origin of Bladderwrack? Bladderwrack comes from the North Atlantic Ocean and the Pacific coasts. It can also be found along the coast of the Baltic Sea.   Is Bladderwrack a Laxative? You might have heard that bladderwrack helps with constipation, and that is true. However, bladderwrack can also be used to treat diarrhea in some cases and make your bowel movements more regular. So while it can be a mild laxative, its effects are more about regulating bowel movements overall.     For all general inquiries, please contact us at info@akashasuperfoods.com Social Link Social Link Social Link Social Link Social Link Akasha Superfoods© Copyright. A Certified Health Coach's Natural Cold and Flu Remedies

A Certified Health Coach's Natural Cold and Flu Remedies

A Certified Health Coach's Natural Cold and Flu Remedies By Rachel Yanofsky My name is Rachel Yanofsky and I'm a certified health coach and want to recommend some of my favorite natural cold and flu remedies. As the cold, cozy weather approaches we are all prone to getting sick easier than normal. We can prepare our bodies as much as possible but we can still get sick. Hopefully you won’t be needing these remedies this fall and winter but if you do I hope this helps. Ginger/Honey and Lemon Tea This is one of my favorite remedies and a very simple tea to make. Ginger helps with reducing inflammation, while honey helps soothe the throat and lemon is a great source of vitamin C. This is all great for when you're sick so I highly recommend grabbing a mug and boiling some warm water then adding fresh ginger, honey and a few squeezes of lemon and then you have a yummy fresh tea. Elderberry I love Akasha's Purple Sea Moss Gel because it contains elderberry which is great for boosting your immune system. Elderberry can help with headaches, sinus infections, and help fight cold and flu symptoms. Elderberry can be found in tea, gummies and many other supplements. I love to add 1 teaspoon of purple sea moss gel to my berry smoothies so I can make sure I get a little bit of elderberry into my body. Sleep This one is a given but we often forget how important sleep is. It’s so beneficial to give our bodies the proper amount of time to sleep so it can start to repair and heal itself while we are sick. Steam Steam is a great way to open up your sinuses to help relieve you of any discomfort. It’s a great way to detoxify the body when  you're sick. I personally love adding eucalyptus oil to my steam showers because it also helps clear any nasal congestion. Steam is great to add into your weekly routines even if you're not sick. Hydration When we are sick we tend to forget to hydrate but it happens to us all. This is one of the most important steps to recovering from your sickness. If we aren't hydrated our bodies become fatigued and our immune system isn’t as strong as we need it to be to fight off any infection.  An easy way to get a little extra hydration is to add chia seeds and some lemon to your water. How Honey & Turmeric Benefit the Skin

How Honey & Turmeric Benefit the Skin

How Honey & Turmeric Benefit the Skin By Rachel Yanofsky Honey not only tastes amazing but it’s also great for your skin, typically for all skin types. Honey is a great moisturizer; it brightens the skin and it helps with scarring, along with so many other benefits. Honey can be mixed with many other ingredients such as yogurt, turmeric, coconut oil, and aloe. Each ingredient plays a different role to help the skin, depending on your specific needs. First, we will focus on the benefits of a honey turmeric mask and what it’s useful for.  Honey turmeric masks are very beneficial for those who have suffered from acne and are left with scarring. While honey acts as an anti-inflammatory to help heal acne scars, turmeric works as an antibacterial agent, getting rid of anything unwanted on the skin.  Yogurt is also highly beneficial to use as a moisturizer. Turmeric Honey Face Mask Ingredients: Honey Turmeric powder Plain greek yogurt  Directions: Start out by putting 1 tablespoon of honey into a small bowl. Then, add ½ teaspoon of turmeric powder and a few drops of plain greek yogurt to the honey and mix it all together. Once it’s mixed, refrigerate the mask for about 30 minutes until it’s firm.  You can then apply it to your face and let it sit for about 20 minutes.  Wash it off with cool water.   Your skin will feel soft and moisturized. You may have a yellowish tint to your skin after using this mask but this is just from the turmeric and will subside quickly. Your Guide to Fall Produce

Your Guide to Fall Produce

Your Guide to Fall Produce Fall is one of the best times for produce because we are given such a variety of leafy greens, hearty vegetables, and delicious fruits that accompany the cozy weather. We have created a guide for some of our favorite fall produce and recipes they are great in. 1. Butternut Squash Squash is a fall staple known for its variety of shapes, sizes, and texture. Butternut squash has a nutty but sweet and creamy favor. It’s best when baked or boiled and turned into a creamy soup, mixed into salad, or cooked with its skin on until it’s crispy. 2. Beans Beans are always a fall favorite and something you typically find on the thanksgiving table due to their beautiful variety of colors.  Green beans are most commonly seen but there’s also yellow beans and even purple ones. They taste best when sautéed in a pan with a little olive oil, garlic, salt, and pepper. 3. Pears, Apples, & Plums Pears are a nice touch on top of salads because of how crisp and juicy they are. Apples are delicious when turned into an apple pie filling but can also be sautéed and put into a breakfast bowl.  The juiciness of plums makes them great to use in a tart.  As chillier weather approaches, both apples and plums are perfect ingredients to use in a crumble. 4. Kale When we think of fall we don’t typically think of hearty, leafy, greens but kale is one that is commonly used. Due to its hearty nature, it’s a must in fall salads because it can be topped with loads of toppings and can hold a heavy dressing without wilting.  Kale is delicious when eaten raw in salads topped with butternut squash, pumpkin seeds, pomegranates, goat cheese, and a lemon vinaigrette dressing. It also has an amazing flavor when it’s simply baked or sautéed. 5. Sweet Potatoes There are so many varieties of sweet potatoes, but two of the most popular are Japanese sweet potatoes and sweet potatoes. Japanese sweet potatoes are yummy when cooked like french fries. Load them up with olive oil, garlic powder, onion power, and nutritional yeast and bake them in the oven until crispy.  Sweet potatoes taste amazing when turned into gnocchi. 6. Brussel Sprouts These mini cabbage-shaped veggies are actually part of the cabbage family. They are a great way for people to get greens into their diet. The best way to eat them is to cut the bottoms off, peel the outer layer, wash them very well and then put them in the oven to roast with olive oil and balsamic until they are extremely crispy. 7. Eggplant When we think of eggplant we instantly think of eggplant parmesan but there are so many other ways to use eggplant! A lot of people will use eggplant as a meat alternative because of how hearty and thick it is, but we like to cube it and roast it with a bunch of tomatoes and herbs and turn it into a stew to pair with saffron rice and a dash of coconut yogurt. 8. Zucchini Zucchini comes in a variety of colors, shapes, and sizes. We love that zucchini can be so versatile in what it’s used for. Our favorite way to prepare it is to sauté zucchini noodles and top it with a fresh basil pesto or cut zucchini into slices to roast in the oven and top with hummus. Why Buying Local Produce is Better

Why Buying Local Produce is Better

Why Buying Local Produce is Better Buying local produce supports local growers, small businesses, and the local economy. When buying food from a conventional grocery store, middlemen are required to help distribute produce and the farmers are left with very little profit to support themselves and their families. When shopping at the farmer’s market, your produce is coming directly from the source and you can form a personal relationship with the people who grow your food. At their stand you can ask them directly about the quality of the produce and growing conditions. Some growers allow you to visit their farm so you can get a better idea of where your food is coming from. Why Buying Local Produce Has More Nutritional Value Local produce provides the most nutritional value and value for your money. Food in conventional grocery stores is usually picked before it’s ripe and then travels for miles upon miles for long periods of time, before reaching the grocery store. The average produce at a conventional grocery store can have a shelf life of about a week. Since locally grown food doesn’t have to travel far, it stays fresher for longer, retains more of its nutrients, has a longer shelf life, and can have more flavor. Those who consume local produce are able to consume a higher level of nutrients than typical store-bought produce. Local produce generally travels no more than a few hours away from the markets and tends to be picked the week or day before it's brought to the market. You're also able to purchase produce that is freshly in season. Environmental Cost of Conventional Produce Local produce has a lower carbon footprint than conventional produce. Shorter travel times require less fossil fuel which reduces pollution and emits less carbon dioxide into the atmosphere. The consumption of local produce also reduces the amount of food waste including damaged and expired food from transportation and travel time. Store-bought food is also generally pre-packaged in plastic and other materials. Shopping at farmers markets can eliminate the excessive packing waste that we find at conventional grocery stores, especially when consumers come prepared with reusable bags and produce bags. While some growers still use plastic and rubber bands, you can always reuse them! 3 of the Best Farmer's Markets to Shop in LA 1-Santa Monica Farmers Market Wednesdays and Saturdays  8am to 1pm 155-199 Arizona Ave, Santa Monica, CA 90401 2-Playa Vista Farmers Market  Saturdays  9am to 2pm 12775 Millennium Dr, Playa Vista, CA 90094 3-Mar Vista Farmers Market Sundays  9am to 2pm 12198 Venice Blvd., Los Angeles, CA 90066 Photograph by: Olivia Wandres @Livrunsaway For all general inquiries, please contact us at info@akashasuperfoods.com Social Link Social Link Social Link Social Link Social Link Akasha Superfoods© Copyright. The Benefits of Facial Icing and How to Do It!

The Benefits of Facial Icing and How to Do It!

The Benefits of Facial Icing and How to Do It! Need a natural & simplistic way to slow aging and get clear glowing skin? Look no further, incorporating facial icing and sea moss gel in your skincare routine is one of the cleanest, cheapest, and most effective anti-aging methods out there!   Frustrated after spending too much money on expensive anti-aging products that just don’t seem to work? Worried about the toxic chemicals in your skincare routine, and looking for cleaner, non-toxic methods? Good news, there’s a natural solution that has been used for centuries and proven to work – ice facials! The best part? You don’t even need to go to a spa, apply this daily facial from the comfort of your home. What is Facial Icing? Facial icing is a natural skincare and anti-aging method that involves freezing water, or more effectively, sea moss gel, in a facial ice ball  to gain the full benefits of ice facials. The product/routine is designed to make your skin appear smoother and younger, without any pain or discomfort.  The ice facial can be applied to the cheeks, forehead, and chin areas. You can also choose to apply facial icing over other treatments, such as microdermabrasion or chemical peels. What are the benefits of facial icing? You've got a ton of options when it comes to facial icing, so you'll want to make sure you're getting the best one for your skin type and needs. Akasha’s facial ice ball is a safe choice (BPA-free silicone ice molds) that is suited for all skin types, and is easy to use.  Ice facials are a great way to reduce puffiness and fine lines around the eyes and mouth. They reduce inflammation in these areas, which can help with puffiness, dryness, and inflammation. It's also an antioxidant treatment that helps fight free radicals in the body. Ice facials use frozen water (and/or other healthy liquids like sea moss gel) to create micro bubbles in your skin that cause it to become tighter and firmer than normal skin would be able to do on its own. Sea moss gel, one of the best natural liquid superfoods to use in ice facials,  is a unique addition to any skincare routine. Akasha’s sea moss gel is suitable for all skin types, as it hydrates the skin without clogging pores or causing irritation. Sea moss gel is rich in antioxidants and vitamins A, C, E, and K – all which help maintain healthy skin while preventing wrinkles from forming. The gel has been proven to help increase collagen production in your skin. Sea moss gel also has a cooling effect that helps to calm down any inflammation or irritation caused by sunburns or even hot showers. Facial icing helps remove dead skin cells from the surface of your face. This will leave your skin smoother and more radiant. Icing also hydrates dry areas on the face – like lips, cheeks, and forehead. This helps prevent dryness in these areas as well as reduce fine lines and wrinkles. Ice facials act as a barrier between your face and the environment. While this may sound strange at first, it can actually help prevent damage from UV rays, wind, and cold temperatures. Not only does facial icing prevent wrinkles from forming prematurely (which can happen when you're exposed to environmental elements), it also helps protect against premature aging caused by free radicals. So while facial icing won't remove wrinkles or make you look younger than your years—it can help prevent premature aging by keeping your skin healthy and youthful-looking! And if that wasn't enough reason to try facial icing, there’s another: facial icing can also help with acne. Acne is caused by blocked pores and clogged follicles, so by improving the health of your skin cells with our natural products, you'll be able to reduce acne even more than usual! Potential Benefits of Face Icing: Heals and prevents acne. Tightens skin and reduces pore size. Reduces puffy eyes. Promotes healthy glowing skin. Prevents premature aging and wrinkles. Increases absorption of other skincare products. And much more!  How do I do facial icing? What products do I need? Giving yourself an ice facial is easy! Simply freeze water or our sea moss gel in a facial ice ball, and then apply to your face!  (1) Facial Ice Ball Akasha’s facial ice ball is easy-to-grip, and its slow-melting ice makes it perfect for face icing. This product’s BPA-free silicone ice molds are 100% safe and effective in freezing liquids like water and superfood liquids like sea moss gel. (2) Sea Moss Gel (Natural Superfood) As discussed, sea moss gel is one of the best, most beneficial liquids to freeze in the facial ice ball. It is one of the most powerful plants and mineral-dense superfoods on the entire planet. Our premium gold sea moss gel is clean and has simple, minimal ingredients – the sea moss is blended with spring water, and that’s it! No unnecessary toxic chemicals or ingredients to worry about. Our sea moss is harvested from the pristine oceans of St. Lucia. To maximize the benefits of icing, we recommend blending up our sea moss gel with other superfoods, pouring it into the facial ice ball, and applying to your face daily! Other superfoods may include aloe vera, cucumber, honey, turmeric, etc! Akasha's ice facial and sea moss gel (the only 2 products you need!) are safe for all skin types including sensitive, dry and dehydrated skin so there is no need to worry about allergies or adverse reactions if you have sensitive skin conditions.  For all general inquiries, please contact us at info@akashasuperfoods.com Social Link Social Link Social Link Social Link Social Link Akasha Superfoods© Copyright. Why Our Soil Is Lacking Minerals

Why Our Soil Is Lacking Minerals

Why Our Soil Is Lacking Minerals What if we told you that 99 percent of the world’s calorie intake comes from a single source? It’s true and that source is our earth’s soil. Every living organism in our ecosystem depends on soil to survive. Plants need soil to grow, animals (including humans) need plants to survive and thrive.    That’s why what we’re about to tell you is so alarming. If our soil becomes in trouble, we’re all in trouble.    Right now, our soil is experiencing nutrient depletion at an aggressive rate. The culprit is modern farming and agricultural practices. One-third of the world’s soil is moderately degraded and more than fifty percent of our agricultural lands are degraded to some degree.   Mineral deficiency in our soil isn’t news to scientists and other experts. We knew in the early 1900s that American soils were lacking in minerals and that 99 percent of Americans were considered mineral deficient. Around 1936, Dr. Charles Northen conducted a study in which he restored the mineral balance to one crop while leaving an accompanying crop alone. Each test revealed that the minerally balanced crop was consistently healthier and free of pests and fungus.   So why, if mineral balance provides healthier, cleaner crops, are so many farmers ignoring this fact and continuing their harmful farming practices? The main reason is that mismanagement in farming has become so intense and widespread, much of our agricultural industry is unaware or, sadly, doesn’t care that their current practices are actually endangering our entire ecosystem, themselves included. Popular modern farming practices are designed to speed up productivity and focus on quantity, not quality. The irony is, if they did work to restore mineral balance, they would yield more crops.  Why Minerals Matter You’ve heard it your entire life. Daily intake of vitamins and minerals are essential for good health. Yet, minerals have always taken a backseat in the health and fitness spotlight to vitamins and other important nutrients. However, as Dr. Northen concluded in his study, “Healthy plants mean healthy people. We can’t raise a strong race on a weak soil.” The minerals our bodies must have to survive and thrive in our health also need us to protect the soil in which minerals originate.   It  was studies like Dr. Northen’s that eventually led to recommendations from the FDA and health experts to begin taking vitamin and mineral supplements. The goal was to help Americans restore our bodies’ mineral deficiencies and become healthier. It worked in many ways. Americans quickly jumped on board the supplement train and the vitamin and supplement industry exploded. Over the last half century, we have become more interested in and focused on health and fitness than ever.    While supplemental vitamins and minerals are addressing the health concerns of mineral deficient people, this is only one step in resolving the world’s mineral deficiency problem. The larger issue and source of our mineral deficiencies, has yet to be addressed on a large scale. Although there are many farmers across the world who are educated about the impact farming has on the environment and take proper steps to farm sustainably and protect the environment, there are many more farmers who continue to follow poor farming practices.  How Sea Moss Fulfills Mineral Deficiencies  Until the farming industry begins to change to better, more sustainable and environmentally protective practices on a widespread scale, we humans must continue to do what it takes to get the minerals our bodies need, like seeking other sources for our minerals. Though one natural source–soil–-is experiencing mineral depletion, another natural resource is still abundant with minerals and nutrients. We’re talking about the ocean and our most favorite superfood–sea moss.  What is Sea Moss? Sea moss, also called Irish moss, is seaweed’s close cousin. It’s a red algae mostly found near the rocky Atlantic coasts of North America and Europe. Though it’s only recently become popularized in modern culture, sea moss has been used for centuries for medicinal purposes by many cultures including Jamaican and Irish. In its natural environment, sea moss serves as a structure for smaller organisms and a food source for low zone invertebrate herbivores.    Just two tablespoons of sea moss per day provides many required minerals and nutrients like iodine, calcium, magnesium, phosphorous, potassium, iron, zinc, copper, and manganese, to name a few. It’s believed that sea moss contains 92 of the 102 minerals our bodies need for survival. Sea moss gel is one of our favorite ways to get the minerals we need from sea moss because you can eat it on its own or add it to your favorite morning smoothie.    Another reason we prefer sea moss gel over other supplement products is that sea moss gel is all-natural. The process to convert sea moss into a gel is natural and doesn’t require any special additives or sugars. You’re getting the minerals and nutrients your body needs without any added junk.    Because interest in sea moss as a food source is still new, so is much of the research into the benefits of sea moss and most of the studies that have been performed were on a small scale. Although many experts and scientists are still hesitant in confirming the incredible benefits of consuming sea moss, all can agree that the studies that have been completed showed very promising results.   We hope the day comes quickly that today’s agricultural industry will realize the consequences of their errors in modern farming and begin to take significant steps to restore balance to our soils. Until then, we’re grateful for sea moss and other supplemental mineral sources for filling in the gap our soil leaves behind.  For all general inquiries, please contact us at info@akashasuperfoods.com Social Link Social Link Social Link Social Link Social Link Akasha Superfoods© Copyright. 9 Superfoods That Are Rich in Minerals

9 Superfoods That Are Rich in Minerals

9 Superfoods That Are Rich in Minerals 1. Coconut Water Coconuts are a fruit grown in trees in a tropical climate. Coconut water is the liquid found in the center of a young, green coconut that nourishes the fruit as it grows. Coconut water contains around 94% water and little fat. It’s a rich source of manganese and potassium, and contains smaller amounts of iron, magnesium, copper, zinc, and phosphorous. Additionally, coconut water is full of antioxidants that fight damage and disease-causing free radicals produced by stress.    Coconut water may also help lower blood sugar levels in people living with diabetes as well as help prevent kidney stones. Additionally, coconut water is believed to be beneficial in lowering high blood pressure, high bad cholesterol, and high triglyceride levels, therefore it’s considered a heart-healthy food. Because coconut water is rich in potassium and magnesium, two key electrolytes need for hydration, it’s also the perfect post-workout rehydration drink.  2. Fresh Fruit A bowl of fresh fruit is one of our favorite ways to get a healthy dose of superfoods. The great news about fruit as a superfood source is that there are so many. Strawberries, blueberries, figs, avocados, tomatoes, and pomegranate are just a few of the many super fruits you can mix up each day. Many super fruits offer the minerals and vitamins your body needs for good physical and mental health. Some of the minerals found in super fruits include potassium, calcium, iron, and potassium. Most super fruits don’t just contain one key mineral or nutrient, but many. For instance, bananas aren’t just an excellent source of potassium (great post-workout snack) they’re also loaded with other vitamins like B6 and C, and they help produce serotonin. Pomegranate is another fruit that’s loaded with antioxidants and compounds that boost your health and immune system. Check out a list of 25 super fruits you can add to your diet here.  3. Sea Moss Sea moss has been used as a food and medicine by cultures around the world. In recent years, sea moss has gained popularity as a health food due to its high nutrient content.  It’s a vegan-free, gluten-free superpower source of 92 minerals including iodine, sulfur, iron, copper calcium, magnesium, zinc, chromium, and even silicone. When it comes to serving sizes, a little bit goes a long way. You just need two tablespoons for one serving per day, which is perfect for a smoothie!  Sea moss is rich in iodine, which is necessary for thyroid function. The nutrients in sea moss may boost immunity, improve digestive health, and promote heart health.  Because our sea moss gel comes in jars, it makes a wonderful addition to summertime smoothies and juices. Simply add a spoonful of sea moss to your favorite recipe and blend until smooth. You can also use it to make homemade raw desserts, so that you don't have to use the oven. It is a fantastic thickening agent.  4. Shilajit Shilajit is a sticky substance mostly found in Himalayan rock. Its primary component is an antioxidant called fulvic acid which aids in cognitive health by fighting the accumulation of tau protein. A buildup of tau protein can damage the brain and lead to diseases such as Alzheimer’s disease.  It has also been proven effective in treating low testosterone levels, chronic fatigue syndrome, iron deficiency anemia, and high altitude sickness. Shilajit also fights against aging, may help increase life longevity, and can help male infertility. Shilajit is one of the most mineral dense superfoods on the planet! We love making a tea with it.  5. Orange Juice Orange juice isn’t only a key source of vitamin C, it’s full of antioxidants likened to that found in acai berries. It contains caretenoids, flavonoids, and ascorbic acid. Orange juice is also rich in folate and a source of magnesium and potassium. 6. Liver/Organ Meats Organ meat and liver aren’t the most commonly consumed animal meats eaten by humans today, but they were a prized food among hunter-gatherers. These meats are filled with nutrients and minerals including iron, protein, folate and vitamin B12. Liver is known as the detox organ and the “nutritional powerhouse” of organ meats. Brains, considered a delicacy in many cultures, are full of omega-3 fatty acids.  7. Aloe Vera Aloe vera is often thought of as a medicinal plant but it’s also a great superfood! Minerals found in pure aloe gel include selenium, calcium, sulfur, magnesium, chromium, copper, and zinc, as well as vitamins A, C, E, and certain B vitamins.  8. Sea Salt Sea salt isn’t just a better way to add salt to your favorite foods, it’s a key source of many major minerals including potassium, sodium, calcium, and phosphorous. Important trace minerals such as iron, iodine, manganese, and zinc are also found in sea salt.  9. Oysters Oysters are a favorite among seafood lovers and they’re also rich in key micronutrients and minerals. A serving of oysters is filled with manganese, copper, zinc, and vitamin D. These nutrients in combination with calcium are believed to slow down bone loss in women due to osteoporosis.  Superfoods are one of the most natural and holistic ways to achieve optimum mental and physical health. The minerals and nutrients found in superfoods boost the immune system, slow the internal and external aging process, lowers the risk of brain and heart diseases, and helps boost life longevity, among many other benefits. A healthier you isn’t truly found without incorporating key superfoods into your daily diet that are rich in minerals!
