Top 3 benefits of Elderberry

By Rachel Yanofsky

Elderberries are dark purple berries which are found on shrubs or bushes. They are commonly known for boosting the immune system and having amazing benefits for your health. They contain  magnesium, vitamin A, vitamin K, and omega-3 fatty acids and are known to help reduce inflammation. At Akasha we offer our purple sea moss gel, which contains elderberry. It is a great addition to any smoothie, eating it by the spoonful, or even adding it to our facial ice ball to use on your skin.

Skin Support

Elderberries are known to support healthy skin. They are nutrient and antioxidant rich and are packed with omega 3 fatty acids, omega 6 fatty acids, choline and bioflavonoids. These are all very important in aiding skin health. Elderberry helps with wrinkles, acne and smoothes the skin.

Great for the Immune System

Elderberries can be very beneficial in preventing sickness or to help heal those who are sick. Due to its  high level of antioxidants it can help to reduce cold and flu symptoms. You can find elderberries in many supplements. Anthocyanins, which is found in elderberries is also found in raspberries, purple cauliflower, black rice and among many others.

Gut and Digestion Health

The anthocyanins in elderberries help maintain a healthy gut microbiome balance, which helps with overall gut health. A health gut bacteria balance is important for digestion and optimizing the immune system function. The fiber and antioxidant content may relieve constipation and people with irritable bowel syndrome may experience relief when supplementing elderberry consistently.
